Prophesying for the Building Up of the Body of Christ

Hello Fellow Lovers of Jesus!

This morning was a marvelous time at the meeting place of the church in Berkeley as we came together just to enjoy Christ and exalt Him above everything else. Such exaltation eventually led us to worship our Father God who loved and has loved us with such a far-reaching love that He would send His only-begotten Son to die in our place! What a Father! Thus, I am led to say, “Happy Heavenly Father’s Day” 😀

I always love the prophesying meeting because it’s the time when all the believers can come together and testify of their experience of Christ. Just for those who are not familiar, prophesying according to 1 Corinthians 14:31 means to speak for Christ and to speak forth Christ. This means that as you go through your week and contact the Lord in the Word, prayer, or through singing spiritual songs, the Lord may impress you with something concerning Himself, His Body, or His intentions. Such revelation is not just for your individual experience or enjoyment alone, but is for the building up of His Body (Ephesians 3:2, 8). So, this is why when we come together, we all like to share our enjoyment of Christ with one another with the view to building up of the Body of Christ!

“What then, brothers? Whenever you come together, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up” (1 Corinthians 14:26)

So, this morning I was preparing to prophesy about how, according to Galatians 3:21, the law as the testimony of God is not the source of life and is thus unable to give life in itself. Rather, the law is a channel that conveys the divine life and substance to us for our supply and nourishment. The key, however, that decides if we gain this life or completely miss it is altogether dependent on if we are seeking the Lord Himself or just vain knowledge apart from the person of Christ. If we turn our heart, we become unveiled (2 Corinthians 3:16-18) and all that God is in Christ, as the Spirit, is conveyed to us His loving-seekers. By means of such a constant beholding, we allow the Lord to express Himself through us, which spontaneously fulfills the law (Romans 8:4)—(what I wrote about in fulfilling the law according to the New Testament). But lo, and behold, something else came out!

You see, the great thing about prophesying is that no matter how much you prepare to speak about one thing, if you’re open to the Lord, He will direct your speaking according to His wish and desire, and will cause you to say something that you were not even thinking about, but for a particular purpose. So what came out? I totally exposed myself in my shepherding of the brothers who live in my house! I confessed about ministering only the letter to them and killing them as in 2 Corinthians 3:6 by giving them only a bunch of do’s and don’ts. I explained how the Lord has been shepherding me to see that I need to be a person in life, enjoying life, and ministering life to others, which can only happen if I am a God-seeker and not a letter-keeper (this is in relation to keeping the law according to my own natural strength and zeal). At first, I wondered why the Lord would make me expose myself like that in front of sooo many dear believers (though everyone had a good laugh), but I realize that it set the ground for another member to stand up and release His portion of Christ. Through this experience, I realized a little more that all of my experiences of Christ are for the building up of the Body. There are indeed personal experiences that should remain as a hidden testimony of our deep relationship with the Lord, but even the lessons learned from those experiences are for the other members. What wisdom that our Heavenly Father God has displayed in giving us His Christ, reconstituting us with Him, and causing us to minister Him to others!

Just as a side note for those interested in the club, all the members of Christians on Campus at UC Berkeley are free to go to any church meeting that they wish. We believe in the leading of the Spirit and desire that all the believers who have fellowship with us would allow the Lord Himself to direct them to where they can grow spiritually. May Christ be praised and exalted as the Lord and Head of His Body!

Second side note: we played Ultimate Frisbee at North field for the second Lord’s day (Sunday) in a row. We played old vs. young again like last time and…we got beat again 😦 Oh well, at least bodily exercise is profitable for a little (1 Timothy 4:8)! Let’s try again next week 😀

Grace be with you from Christians on Campus at UC Berkeley!

About A Crazy Lover of Jesus

I am a lover of Christ Jesus my Lord, and I desire to speak one with Him in every matter that is pleasing in His sight. May He gain the first place in my being in all matters and things for the sake of His corporate expression, the Body of Christ!

  1. Yes, “each one has” as a result of calling on the name of the Lord (v. 1:2), being in fellowship (1:9), partaking of Christ as our passover and our unleavened bread (5:7-8), drinking the Spirit (12:13), and many other avenues of supply, such as the Word, praying, and singing you mention. Grace to you at UCB.
