The Sweet Flow of Life
Hello Fellow Crazy Lovers of Jesus!
Tonight was such a sweet time at a Christian home in Albany where we sung about the sweet flow of life! I particularly enjoyed the third stanza and the chorus, but here’s the whole hymn with the music!
In the fresh, tender grass Jesus makes me lie down;
He leads me by waters of rest;
No more struggle and strain; all self-effort is vain;
In the flow I am perfectly blessed.
Lord, I treasure the sweet flow of life,
And my soul-life at last I lay down;
O Lord, deepen the pure flow of life;
At Your coming may life be my crown.
In the small group meeting, someone asked what exactly is the “flow of life.” So, one sister gave a testimony describing the “flow of life”, and likened it to an inward sense of peace. Whenever she would do anything, whether it was buying something at the store or saying something to another person, she would check to see if she had peace. If the peace was not there, no matter how logical a certain action might seemingly be, she would not do it. This, she said, kept her simple and not complicated!
She was practicing to keep herself abiding in the Lord at all times, like in 1 John 2:27 which speaks concerning the Spirit within us as the anointing. In any case, I thought that this was super helpful in developing the habit to keep ourselves turning to the Lord in every kind of scenario, whether big or small. We must be those daily practicing to stay within the bounds of the inward peace, the flow of life. This flow of life is nothing less than the Spirit moving within us and teaching us to turn to the Lord in a personal and affectionate way; it is teaching us to stay, to abide in His presence. The more we abide in this sweet flow, the more that we enjoy the presence of the Lord as our peace, thereby causing the flow to deepen, which issues in even more of His presence and a keener sense for this flow! Hallelujah!
(May the flow continue to deepen within us all!)
Furthermore, we had some delicious cheesecake cupcakes for dessert, which were baked to perfection by one of the student sisters. Thank You, Lord, for the spiritual and physical food!
