Thursday Night Bible Study
Hello Fellow Crazy Lovers of Jesus! 😀
After a crazy day of tabling for Christians on Campus, a midst a flurry of various other clubs, it’s just great to end the day by coming together with other believers and studying the Word of God! Honestly, nothing nourishes and refreshes my spirit more than enjoying the Lord in His Word!!!
So, I was in one of the Thursday night Bible studies and we chose to begin covering 1 Peter. As we were reading verses 1-9 a few items stuck out to me personally. Verse 2 says the following: “Chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father in the sanctification of the Spirit unto the obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied”
I especially enjoyed that God chose us, in Christ, before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4) and in time, the Spirit came to sanctify us, thereby working in us so that we would obey the will of God and take Christ as our unique offering. Just from this verse alone, we can see how the Triune God, that is, God in His Trinity as Father, Son, and Spirit is working to bring fallen sinners into His salvation! Said differently, it is because the Father has chosen us, in Christ, that the Spirit comes to work in us so that we would take the blood of Jesus Christ and be forgiven of our sins, even as the Father already purposed it. This is absolutely wonderful! The Triune God worked in me to such an extent that I would turn to Him, choose Him, and love Him despite my sinful beginnings. Praise the Lord!
Another person spoke a little bit concerning verse 7: “So that the proving of your faith, much more precious than of gold which perishes though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ”
A question came up as to why there would be praise, glory, and honor if it’s just a matter of us believing through our earthly trials. On the one hand, there is definitely some praise that comes from this, but in addition, after some further fellowship, we all came to the conclusion that there would be praise, glory, and honor because throughout all the things that happen to us, negatively or positively, Christ Himself is being worked into us. The proving of our faith is not just a testing of our faith objectively, but rather, out of this process, His life is being worked into the believers so that what is expressed out of them is the very same life that He lived again on the earth! In every trial that He underwent as a man in the likeness of the flesh of sin, He fully expressed the Father. Thus, what a praise this would render to God that so many believers would be conformed to that same image of the Firstborn (Romans 8:29) in expressing all that God is in the midst of every trial!
I could go on and on because the time was sooooo good: an hour is really not enough time! In either case, I’m looking forward to next week so that we can gain more Christ through the eating of His Word together! If you’re interested it’s from 8-9pm near 2332 Haste St!
Grace to you from Christians on Campus at UC Berkeley! 😀
